From Humanitarian Action to Criminal Charges: A Conversation on Solidarity, Migration and Human Rights

During this dialogue event, Athanasios (Nassos) Karakitsos will reflect on his personal experience as a humanitarian volunteer on Lesvos and as one of the defendants in the ERCI case, one of the most prominent examples of the criminalisation of solidarity in Europe.

The conversation will explore the realities of the refugee arrivals in Greece, the role of volunteers and humanitarian organisations, and the growing tensions between border security and human rights across Europe. Through personal testimony, legal developments, and broader policy discussions, participants will be invited to reflect on a central question: what happens when acts of solidarity become the subject of criminal prosecution?

The event aims to encourage open dialogue on migration, democracy, civic engagement, and the future of human rights in Europe.
