Fighting Against and Negotiating with the Taliban

A talk with Nazifa Jalali, a women's rights defender from Afghanistan

Lecture Hall (B0.014), University College Maastricht, Zwingelput 4

“I am the reality of Afghanistan — not the Taliban.” These are the words of Nazifa Jalali, a 27-year-old Afghan human rights defender whose work and story have become a symbol of strength, resistance, and hope.

Nazifa was forced to flee Afghanistan when the Taliban returned to power — targeted for her activism and leadership. Today, she continues her fight from Norway, representing Afghan women at the United Nations, leading a human rights organization, and working to amplify the voices of those silenced back home.

On June 5th, Nazifa will be in Maastricht to share her story — from her years of activism in Afghanistan to her global advocacy today.
